As much as we all likely wish life could be one long vacation, the reality is it’s not. However, true balance will always bring your power. It’s not about equalizing your personal and professional life, being the perfect spouse while still maintaining your independence, or being the best parent without sacrificing your youth – it’s about seeking out the good in every situation so that no matter where your life takes you, you can find peace, joy, and lasting happiness wherever you end up.
Simple Exercise For Realizing True Balance
A simple exercise you can do, no matter who you are or what you feel is holding you back from living your perfect life, is to write down every time you feel that little ping of joy or disdain in your heart. Make note of what you’re doing in that moment and how it’s affecting you. If you usually hate working because it takes time away from your family, but you have a moment one day where you feel like a total boss because of how well you accomplished a specific task, write it down. If you love being a parent but your kid has just made another mess and you’re about to lose your mind for the last time, write that down too. Recognize that absolutely everything in life has its ups and downs. For every precious snuggle and peacefully sleeping child, there is always a temper tantrum around the corner. For every late night you just want to give up on your job and become a hermit, there’s a sense of victory and accomplishment that comes with the morning light. By seeking out and realizing the true balance in every aspect of life, you will begin to see that happiness is not a destination, it’s not in one thing alone, but in everything every moment, everywhere you are. You just have to live in the present moment. The grass is always greener on the other side, and just because a vacation sounds nice doesn’t mean it won’t also come with a little sunburn and cranky kids!
